New York Department of Labor Rules Updates

Effective November 16, 2024, the New York State’s Clean Slate Act goes into effect.

Additional items effective at the start of the year:

Effective January 1, 2025, the NYS Paid Prenatal Care will go into effect.

  • This will require New York employers to provide employees with 20 hours of paid prenatal leave during any 52-week period. The 20 hours required are in addition to the benefit hours employers currently provide.

Paid prenatal leave may be taken for “health care services received by an employee during their pregnancy or related to such pregnancy, including physical examinations, medical procedures, monitoring and testing, and discussions with a health care provider related to the pregnancy.” Learn more.

Effective January 1, 2025, there will an increase in the NYS minimum wage rate.

Hourly rate will go to $15.50 for most industries. Salaried exempt for Executive and Administration will go $1,161.65 per week or $60,405.80 annually. Learn more.
