How is the topic you are presenting at NYSCA 2024 relevant to today’s chiropractor?

Assessing and diagnosing pelvic floor conditions appropriately in a chiropractic office is often the missing link associated with stubborn low back, pelvic or hip pain. Learn the basics of pelvic floor dysfunction, associated symptoms, an appropriate pelvic health screening, treatment basics and when to refer. Management of pelvic floor symptoms during exercise will also be addressed, specifically with regard to running and strength training. This course is not specific to prenatal or postpartum patients, as it will be relevant for any doctor treating any female patient.

What first made you interested in this topic?

Since graduation I had always been interested in prenatal care, but as my practice grew, I began to notice there was a missing link in my care with regard to women's health in general. This caused me to dig deeper into continuing education courses in both the chiropractic and physical therapy professions to find the answers to my questions. As I learned, I knew our education was lacking in treating pelvic health concerns conservatively as DCs.

What practical knowledge or skills can attendees take away from your presentation?

Participants at this lecture will learn the basics of pelvic floor dysfunction, associated symptoms, an appropriate pelvic health screening, treatment basics and when to refer. They will also Learn how to manage pelvic floor symptoms with regard to exercises, specifically running and strength training.

How will what attendees take away make them better doctors?

This two-hour course will give doctors a basic understanding of pelvic health, which is often the missing link associated with stubborn low back, pelvic or hip pain. These are complaints we see every day and it is essential to address all of the structure in the region, not just the one that may be producing the pain itself.

What benefits do you gain from attending NYSCA Conventions?

I benefit from meeting and interacting with other doctors in the state, some who have been in practice for many more years than myself. I am grateful to learn from them as I continue to build my own practice.
