Additional Money available through the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Funding.
Recently, DCs may have witnessed monies from HHS deposited into their bank accounts and should have received follow-up emails requesting that they “attest” in order to keep the funding. The NYSCA previously emailed the membership regarding the HHS funding, which is part of the CARES Act.
Initially, there was $100 billion allocated to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to provide relief funds to hospitals and other healthcare providers on the front lines of the coronavirus response.
To be clear about the situation: The Secretary of HHS has earmarked $30 billion of this fund to support healthcare-related expenses or lost revenue attributable to COVID-19 among all eligible healthcare providers and to ensure uninsured Americans can get testing and treatment for COVID-19. Importantly, CMS intimates, the “[c]are does not have to be specific to treating COVID-19. HHS broadly views every patient as a possible case of COVID-19.”
The overall concern for our members is; “Does a Chiropractor qualify for any of the HHS funding?"
We at the NYSCA do our best to direct members in the appropriate direction, or at least provide information that would benefit their particular circumstance.
Recently, additional funding has been appropriated and has been made available to Doctors of Chiropractic by the HHS.
If you keep the money that was deposited, you must complete and sign the required HHS attestation. If you do attest and keep the funding, you may also at that point apply for additional funding through the same link.
If you decide to keep the money in the initial deposit (and apply for additional funding), we strongly suggest you keep all receipts for PPE and other office expenses related to the pandemic. Good accounting practices to document lost revenue due to covid-19 are also recommended.
Unfortunately there are no guarantees or assurances that anyone (even the NYSCA) could provide members that they or any doctor "qualifies" for this funding. The answer to this question is ultimately left up to your discretion.
