2014 End of Legislative Session Summary

The end of the 2014 legislative session has just concluded. Although we were successful in passing the bill in the New York State Senate, we were not able to get the partnership bill passed in the New York State Assembly. Thanks to the efforts of our Legislative Committee and lobbyist, Amy Kellogg of Harter Secrest and Emery, along with the joint efforts of the NY Chiropractic Council, we had several other major accomplishments.

First, during this legislative session, we were able to remove a provision from the proposed New York State budget that would have changed how no-fault providers in New York State were reviewed and investigated. If passed, this provision would have opened up most no-fault providers to intensive investigations and review of their no-fault records. The NYSCA and the Council through the Joint Legislative Task Force worked with the Governor's office and both houses of the Legislature to explain our concerns and fight for changes. In the end, the proposal was removed completely from the budget and the provisions as they relate to no-fault providers did not change.
