Martin I. Lawrence, DC

Dr. Martin I. Lawrence passed away peacefully and gracefully at his home in Boca Raton, Florida on November 25, 2015 after a brief illness. His wife Francine and their adoring children Peter, Scott and Cathy were with him at his bedside.

Raised in The Bronx, New York and educated at Stuyvesant High School, Dr. Lawrence attended New York University and then graduated the Chiropractic Institute of New York (CINY) in 1949, becoming the 22nd licensed Chiropractor in NY state. He was also an anatomy professor at CINY for 10 years. He had offices both in The Bronx and Jericho, New York.

Known to his friends and peers as Marty, he was a diplomat of the American Board of Chiropractic Orthopedists, Chairman & Director of Clinical Competency Committee for the National Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Board and from 1974-1990 he was an arbitrator for the NY State Workers Compensation Board.

Dr. Lawrence was the Chairman of the NY State Board of Chiropractic Examiners from 1971 till 1980 and was the sole Chiropractic consultant to Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield Medicare program from 1980 till 2001.

Always an activist for the Chiropractic profession, Dr. Lawrence was instrumental in co-drafting legislation for licensure, the ability to legally take x-rays and other monumental laws for chiropractors in the state of New York.

Both of his sons are practicing chiropractors; one in Reggio-Emilia, Italy and the other in Jerusalem, Israel.

Martin Lawrence was a committed family man, an avid golfer, a lover of life and a gentle and kind soul. He is survived by his wife, three children, two daughters-in-law, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The profession has lost one of its modern founders and we are thankful and appreciative of all his sacrifices and victories on behalf of our great profession.

The family has requested that any donations be made to Friends of the IDF
