The New York State Education Department has developed a webpage containing many frequently asked questions related to the developing COVID-19 situation.  An excerpt from this page as relates to continuing education requirements is included below.

4. Are CE requirements being waived?
   Answer: Not at this time. The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is working closely with other New York State agencies and the Governor’s Office to tackle issues relating to COVID-19. Please continue to monitor the Department’s website for updated guidance.
5. Can a licensee complete 100% of the required continuing education through self-study activities offered by approved providers for their profession?
   Answer: Some regulations restrict licensees to a certain percentage of self-study for continuing education requirements. In response to the evolving situation with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), and for those licensees whose registrations are due to renew March 1-June 1, 2020, the Department will grant an adjustment to all licensees to complete up to 100% of the continuing education as self-study, so long as it is taken from a Department-approved provider for the specific profession and is in an acceptable subject area for the specific profession.   Utilizing Laboratory Tests When Managing Musculoskeletal Pain and Inflammation 
  Presented by: Angelo Ippolito, DC
  Laboratory tests are an essential part of the evaluation and management of musculoskeletal pain and inflammation. The purpose of this presentation is to familiarize the chiropractor with appropriate lab tests utilized for these conditions. The following topics will be included for discussion: vitamin D deficiency and its role in back pain; the association between metabolic syndrome and chronic low-back pain; and, appropriate lab tests to rule out spinal inflammatory arthritides. Note: All blood tests discussed are “approved clinical laboratory tests” for New York State chiropractors to order as per the New York State Education Department – Office of the Professions.

  Documenting Active Care for the Injured Worker
  Presented by: Jason Brown, DC, DACRB, FICC
  Exploration and Application of New York’s Medical Treatment Guidelines for Neck and Back Conditions. The new fee schedule and RVU ground rules require understanding of how to document and code active care effectively. This course will focus on the injured workers by covering best practices for assessment and selection of active care approaches, documenting and recording active care parameters, ethics and coding procedures of active care, documentation of objective functional measures, documenting disability status, and recording return to work parameters. This course will follow the intent of the NYS WC Medical Treatment Guidelines which is to achieve improvement in the patients’ condition with early intervention including conservative care strategies combining manipulative therapy, modalities, and active care.
