The end of the 2014 legislative session has just concluded. Although we were successful in passing the bill in the New York State Senate, we were not able to get the partnership bill passed in the New York State Assembly.Thanks to the efforts of our Legislative Committee and lobbyist, Amy Kellogg of Harter Secrest and Emery, along with the joint efforts of the NY Chiropractic Council, we had several other major accomplishments.

The American Chiropractic Association has provided details on several recent important legislative victories for the Chiropractic profession 

Arlington, Va.- On June 28, 2012, the U.S. Supreme Court, in a controversial 5 to 4 decision, declared the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) to be constitutional, including the much disputed "individual mandate" provision which requires individuals to purchase health insurance coverage. According to the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), the long-awaited court decision removes legal obstacles to the full implementation of the law on a timeline very close to what was planned when PPACA was signed into law in March 2010.

On Tuesday, May 03, 2011, members of the NYSCA and Council’s Joint Legislative Task Force met with key legislators in Albany regarding our priority legislative items for 2011.The meetings proved to be effective and productive. Members from both parties in the Senate and Assembly agreed to sponsor and support our legislation.

S3741, sponsored by Senator George Maziarz, and A6294, sponsored by Assemblyman Keith Wright, has been introduced in both houses of the legislature.  This bill would prohibit the application of the medical treatment guidelines to workers compensation patients who had a date of accident or date of disablement prior to December 1, 2010.

Regardless of what you think politically about health care reform, you have to be impressed with the inclusion of non-discrimination language in the bill that recently passed.

The NYSCA Officers, Directors and Delegates are pleased to announce that the Association’s hard work has been rewarded. Governor David Paterson has signed into law as Chapter 237 of the laws of 2009, Omnibus legislation (A8402a) containing NYSCA’s retrospective audit provisions.

The NYSCA is pleased to share with you the news that the Association’s hard work has been rewarded. Bill A8402 has been passed both the Assembly and the Senate. It now awaits Governor David Paterson’s signature for final approval. Included in this omnibus piece of legislation was the language of NYSCA’s retrospective audit bill.
