It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we acknowledge the passing on July 19, 2012 of Dr. Jessica Grandal, wife of Dr. Alan Friedman and mother of Rachael.  Dr. Grandal was a former Board Member and Chairwoman of the New York State Board for Chiropractic for ten years.  Following her ten-year service, she sat on the Disciplinary Panel for the New York State Board of Chiropractic.

Health Maintenance Care in Work-Related Low Back Pain and Its Association With Disability Recurrence

A new study published in the April 2011 issue of the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine title “Health Maintenance Care in Work-Related Low Back Pain and Its Association with Disability Recurrence," reports concluded that chiropractic care was more effective for common work-related low-back pain in comparison to treatments by physicians or physical therapists. In total, chiropractic patients demonstrated lower medical expenses, fewer disability recurrences and shorter initial periods of disabilities.

Ethics and Boundaries Examination Introduction and Retake Policy

In 2011, the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) introduced changes in the format of its Ethics and Boundaries (E&B) Examination.  The former multiple-choice format has been replaced with a computer-based essay test that was developed in collaboration with state board examiners familiar with regulatory concerns.

Medicare Audit Alert

The current requests for audits by Medicare are not an unusual review.  In New York, there is currently a special services pre payment audit request for 98941 services as of October, 2010 and for 98942 services as of November 2009. Also, Medicare does ongoing CERT reviews on Chiropractic claims in which they will review records for proper documentation to support the claim and diagnosis that has been billed.
