Hello District 17,
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. I would like to start off by saying that we had a wonderful booth at the Erie County Fair. Thank you for all of those that participated and to those that helped organize the fair event. The district is always trying to improve on helping its members here in WNY. The booth was sponsored by NYSCA District 17 but it was also available as a marketing for members to promote their practice as well. We did have coverage most days. There were several evenings that were still available. So, next year we would like to have more Doctors participate.
This year, we did make a donation to help support “2 Pack A Backpack”. As always it is important that we give back to the community. This is a program that we have been sponsoring for the past several years. If any individual Doctor would like to make a donation please Contact the Boys and Girls Clubs of WNY at (716) 825-1016. They will continue to take donations even after the television event.
We did have a couple of events that came up over the summer. We had a day at the Ball Park to watch the Buffalo Bisons that was sponsored by WNY Imaging Group. So, I would like to thank WNY Imaging group for a wonderful afternoon.
Many our members were also invited for the cocktail reception at Pinnacle Orthopedics. This gave our members to meet the providers at Pinnacle as well as meet other healthcare providers from around WNY. I hope those that were invited were able to make it out.
Now it’s time we will begin a new year. This year, one of our goals is to try to meet with as many as out local state representatives to raise awareness of our attempt at scope modernization. I would appreciate any help with this. If you have any contacts that work with any of our local state representatives, please email me. Also, we will need help from a few members to form a political action/lobby committee within our district. Please, anyone willing to help, email me or show up to the first meeting. It is in our best interest to update our Scope of Practice to reflect today’s education. Again, this does NOT include prescriptive rights.
Also, this year we need to try to increase our membership. Please, if you know anyone that is not a member, help by getting them to join. A key to get our Scope Bill through is to have strength in numbers. The state recently sent a letter to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to have NY DC’s removed from the National Registry and are preventing us from doing DOT physical exams. Part of getting our Scope updated will be to allow us to perform these exams. So, please, now is the time to rally the troops and help support this move by renewing memberships and getting new members to join. The sooner this happens the better for all of us. There are ways to save some money on membership, just email me. NYSCA also has different pricing depending on your work status and financial status. Please pass it on.
I would like to say that NYSCA has been working hard on Scope Modernization as well as Unity. District 17 has been working hard both at the State level and as a District to help represent our members and bringing more to the table in terms of member benefits. For the past several years our meetings have been sponsored so there is no cost to the members to attend meetings. Also, we did change our meeting nights to Thursday instead of Wednesday. We hope this arrangement may make it easier for more Doctors to attend the meetings.
Our next meeting will be at Chef’s Restaurant on Thursday September 8, 2016 at 7:00 pm. Our sponsor for this meeting is Standard Process. The guest speaker is Wnyns Adam Davis from Standard Process will be discussing Nutrition as the topic. I hope to see you all there!
